Eligibility

To be eligible to attend traffic school:

  • You may not have elected to attend traffic school within the last 12 months.
  • You may not have attended traffic school more than five times within your lifetime.
  • You may not hold a commercial driver license or been cited while driving a commercial motor vehicle.

To verify your eligibility, use the Driver License Check provided by the Department of Highway Safety Motor Vehicles.

Electing Traffic School

  • You must pay the fine at the same time you elect to attend traffic school. See Fees & Costs.
  • You are responsible for enrolling in a traffic school and paying the fee for the course. A list of approved traffic schools is available online from the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. It is your responsibility to contact the agency of your choice.
  • You must attend a school certified by the State of Florida within 90 days from the date of this election.
  • Failure to complete the course or pay the fine may result in additional fees, points on your driving record and the suspension of your driver license.

Proof of Completion

You are not required to submit a copy of your proof of completion to the Clerk of Court. Florida law requires traffic schools to electronically file your traffic school completion certificate with our office within 5 days of your course completion. Learn more about Traffic School Completion Certificates.

Information for Traffic School Providers

Per Florida Statute 318.1451, driver improvement course providers must submit course completion information electronically through the Florida Courts E-Filing Portal to the Clerk of the Circuit Court of the county where the citation was issued.

Completion information must be submitted within 3 days after receipt of the unique course completion certificate number from the Driver Improvement Issuance System.
